When I was 9 years old a childhood friend named Freddie got sick. He had Leukemia. He was a good kid and generously shared his love of magic tricks with me. In fact, he gave me a plastic magic hat that I played with for hours on end. We had fun playing and doing tricks together too. My family eventually moved away and I lost touch with Freddie... but I never stopped thinking about him. Over the years, my interest in magic tricks grew. I studied theater and became a nationally known touring magician www.stevetrash.com. Through my profession I've been lucky enough to visit many children’s hospitals and I've always been amazed by the incredible strength of sick children. Whether it's a kid on dialysis or in the Cancer ward. They're always so emotionally strong. Eventually all this thinking about them threw me into writing, producing and directing a short movie called Mystic Swirl. It's the uplifting story of a family dealing with the loss of a child to Cancer. It's a very good low budget movie that I believe might heal the grieving pain families who've lost children may feel. Hope so. Steve :)MYSTIC SWIRL - PRODUCTION NOTES
My wife and I wrote the story for Mystic Swirl on a road trip to see my grandchildren in South Carolina. I had the basic outline of what I wanted to say, but I hadn’t been able to put it in a form that seemed to work. In fact, I’ve sat on the story for almost 10 years. So Dianne and I hammered it out driving north on Interstate 75. I got back home and started writing and creating storyboards for the story we’d developed. I am dyslexic and tend to think in pictures anyway, so that was the fun part. We got lucky and Teddy Champion – our producer – who has a Masters in Film read the script and made some really terrific story suggestions. I wrote those in as well and they made the story better - for sure. I began passing the script around town and our cast and crew quickly started to get on board. Because people liked the script and wanted us to do a good movie as much as we did, they stepped up and said “just let us know when and we’ll be there”.CAST & CREW LIST
